NB:
- This is from data from the weekly rankings ONLY, and not from half yearly/year-end rankings. These latter rankings are counted towards the all time rankings in the first post, which has a cut-off of 100k sales.
- The cut-off for this list is 50k sales.
- Volumes released in previous years have data counted from the first time they appeared this year to the last time they appeared this year. These volumes are listed in italics.
- Volumes counted as multiple entries on the rankings are given the separate figures in square brackets after the listing on here.

EDIT: added final figure for kanojo wa uso wo aishisugiteru.

Figures updated

I have also changed slightly what is included in the rankings. This has had the effect of adding Sanbiki no Ossan and Shokubutsu Zukan to the all time 100k+ list. This has been retrospectively applied back to the start of 2014 but no further.

Index: NT volume 9 is the first new release from this year to hit 100k sales. And the annual total list is very slowly starting to grow.

Updated with list from MAL for the latest week. Will update with any missing data when I get access to the full list, which should be tomorrow morning. (EDIT: done)

I've also added in 1000 delimiters to the spreadsheet for 2014 data, and as such these will be added next time the list is updated.

I also somewhat updated the two awkward haganai volumes (3 & 4). These still have large amounts of missing data, though, so I am leaving them in italics.

Yearly ranking for 2010 is missing.

Data for w/c 7/3/2011 and 1/8/2011 has been added thanks to the animetics blog (although it contains no new info for the rankings). That means the rankings now cover weekly data continuously back to the 20/4/2009, and data of some sort back to 17th November 2008. As always, if you have any data for weeks that are not covered by the rankings (or the 2010 annual data), please let me know so that it can be added. As far as can be done for now, though, that's everything added.

Post updated.

All time rankings:
Biblia volume 5 rises from 100th to 40th.
Index New Testament rises from 150th to 107th, and has had its name corrected
Another few thousand gains for Sanbiki no Ossan and Manga de Wakaru Nanatsu no Shuukan

Nothing new passes 100k, although Owarimonogatari vol 2 should make it next week after its first week got 90k sales. Owarimonogatari has been changed to Owarimonogatari volume 1.

Thousand delimiters have been added to the yearly rankings.

Considering we're about 10% of the way through the year, the number of 50k+ sellers is rather disappointing at the moment.

Updated with the latest week's figures.
Biblia once again on top for the week, and up to 32nd overall now.
Owarimonogatari part 2 passes 100k, taking the 3rd spot for the year to date in doing so.
Index drops out the rankings.

Accel World may have only 2 days of rankings, but it's going to need a lot more sales to boost its current 26k up to the 118k that the last volume is listed as having sold.

Updated with this week's figures
Owarimonogatari 2 takes 2nd best seller of the year off Index.
Accel World gets more sales than I thought it would, making it the 5th bestseller of the year. It's still quite a bit behind the previous volumes, though.
Biblia still going strong at the moment, but now is when we see how good that all-important long tail is for this volume.
Manga de Wakaru Nanatsu no Shuukan passes 200k. While technically not a light novel, it is included on my list and this is a worthy achievement. Sanbiki no Ossan also passes 700k total, and will enter the 2014 list next week.

Data for the latest week has been added.

Biblia 5 adds 27675 sales, taking it up to 20th all time

Accel World passes 100k. It seems to be getting a much better long tail than I'd have expected. Maybe it will end up the best selling volume? It won't be the best selling volume of the series, though it's just about possible that it will catch up with the last volume.

Tokyo ravens EX 2 does far better than EX 1, which didn't even rank, with 15998 sales.

machine doll 13 just misses out on the 10k cutoff for inclusion within my spreadsheet. It doesn't seem to have got much of a boost if any from the anime - or at least not this late in the series (maybe new people brought in from the anime haven't caught up yet?).

Owari chuu gains 9934, passing 155k sales.

Kokuhaku youko-renshuu reenters the rankings, and passes 30k sales

Seiken Tsukai no World Break 6, which recently had an anime announced, gets 14370 sales from its second week, after 11 days. It probably won't rank again.

Sanbiki no Ossan takes the very bottom spot on the rankings, on 4476. Is its time on the rankings over? Still, that's enough to push it over 50k sales for this year to date.

Kakuritsu Sousakan Mikoshiba Gakuto: Himitsu no Game also passes 50k.

Shingeki no Kyojin: Animation Side Kou gains 8.5k to 42.2k, so there's a small chance that will hit 50k next week, and Highschool DxD volume 17, with almost 40k first week sales, may well join it.

Any thoughts on why this volume of Accel World had such a bad wk1? It kind of surprised me.

I think Machine-doll isn't going to make any vast improvements, since there usually isn't much of a time-gap between an adaptation airing and the novels gaining popularity (especially since the anime adaptation ended two months ago) which is really disappointing because I enjoyed the adaptation and bought the first couple of volumes of the LNs already.

I'm also surprised that it took Date A Live this long to get to 100k since the anime and the game did so well.

Date A Live volume 7 is the one that came out just before the anime aired, so it was the one best positioned to take advantage of the boost provided by it. However it didn't pass 100k on the rankings until the yearly list came out - which boosted its sales by more than 50% on its total from the weekly rankings.

Volume 8 also probably passed 100k (its recorded sales from the weekly rankings are the highest of any volume to date) but didn't get on the annual list, which required 112k.

Volume 9 had its sales split between two versions, which can suppress reported sales slightly.

Volume 10 comes out just before the next season of the anime (20th March), a year after volume 7 came out.

As for accel world, I really don't know. It did only have 2 days on the rankings, but so did volume 13, which managed 43538 on week 1, against just 28363 for volume 16. I don't think there were stock issues. Incidentally, at this point the sales of volume 13 of AW were 106388, so volume 16 has caught up somewhat with it.

Regarding sales boosts, personally I think there are two types of boost provided. Firstly, there are the people who rush out and buy the whole series, then keep buying each volume as they come out. These are the ones that are most visible, especially as there are sometimes enough of them to push old volumes back into the rankings. The second type is actually the more abundant type, which is the people who gradually buy and read one or two volumes at a time. If a series does well enough from its anime boost (e.g. SAO/Haganai), you can see a bit of a ripple effect from these people as they push progressively later volumes up. However, they take a while to get through series, get increasingly spread out over time, and gradually become fewer in number with each and every volume. From sales rank perspectives, this makes these people rather difficult to spot (and thus get somewhat ignored), and the longer the series the less of an impact they will have on the visible sales. We've only really seen their full effects on ongoing series when a volume appears on the yearly/half yearly rankings, with the sole exception of Biblia's boost from its live action adaptation, which had rather fewer volumes than most series do at the time of their boost, and was one of the most successful boosts ever. There's no doubt, though, that (barring it having the same odd situation as AW 16 has had) Machine-Doll hasn't had a particularly big boost from its anime.
