Kết quả bóng đá Sint-Truidense 2-1 Standard Liege
Posted by: thunguyen2015 - 17-08-2019, 07:02 PM - Forum: General Light Novels - Replies (1)

Custom Phoenix Suns Jerseys .ca presents a week long look at some of the teams and stories that will shape the up coming campaign.NEW YORK, N.Y. - Once mumps invades a professional sports dressing room, it finds a fertile breeding ground and the NHL is finding that it is not easy to get rid of.Multiple players on multiple teams from coast to coast have come down with the mumps, an illness more typically associated with children. It started in Anaheim and plagued the Ducks, who had three players affected. The Minnesota Wild was next, with five victims. Tanner Glass of the New York Rangers then came down with it, and as recently as Wednesday, the New Jersey Devils had two players turn up sick.It is certainly an outbreak that was unexpected and has caused unwanted disruption at the team level, but it is not something we have any significant control over, NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly said. As long as our clubs are doing what they need to do to minimize risk of contraction, we are hopeful that the wave of cases will run their course and life will return to normal. The Ducks hosted the Wild in mid-October, New Jersey and the Rangers played each other a few days later and Minnesota visited the Rangers not long after that before facing the Devils in mid-November. But it was not clear whether the teams shared the virus with each other or picked it up in other ways. You see the hits that they have, and sometimes the spraying of saliva, said Dr. Judith Aberg, chief of the infectious diseases division at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital. I think they are high risk. I am surprised we havent actually seen this before. The illness isnt just hitting hockey players, of course. Students on college campuses have also recently fallen victim in another close environment that promotes spreading of the very contagious virus. It is relatively uncommon since the vaccine was licensed in the early 1960s, but this year weve actually had more cases, Aberg said. In 2013, we had less than 500 cases, and already this year were looking at about 1,000 cases in the United States. One person is expected to infect 10 others.Millions are vaccinated at a young age, but Aberg said the immunity can wane with age and 10 to 20 per cent of individuals who have been vaccinated may not have full protection. The NHL and the players association have provided information to teams and players on ways to protect themselves against the mumpss.dddddddddddd Vaccination decisions for any disease are made by club medical staffs and the players themselves. The Rangers quickly moved to give boosters to players, and other teams have done the same. The Ducks cleaned and sterilized their entire operation following the outbreak that hit Corey Perry and others. Everyone was encouraged to get re-vaccinated and most did. Some affected players have already returned to the ice, and all should recover without lasting effects. Each season at training camp, players are encouraged to provide their vaccination records. Childhood vaccine programs are fairly universal and accessible worldwide, although arent mandatory in every country, the NHLPA said. The NHLPA has been actively educating the players regarding the recent outbreak, while providing best practices on how to avoid contracting and spreading mumps, players association spokesman Jonathan Weatherdon said. Many of the recommendations about locker room and bench behaviour are similar to the standard precautions the NHL provides regarding the flu, which is similarly transmitted.Simple coughing and sneezing and getting those respiratory droplets on each other can cause the spread of mumps, Aberg said. The problem is that it is contagious before you have symptoms. Thats where it gets tricky because you dont know youre going to come down with the mumps, and youre contagious. Then you are contagious for five days or so after you have symptoms. The illness even felled Minnesota ironman defenceman Ryan Suter, the rare American-born player to be affected.Every Wild player was offered a booster shot last month when the virus surfaced. Suter decided not to take it, and paid the price. He was the fifth Minnesota player — all defencemen whose cubicles are next to each other — to come down with the mumps.Suter, who hadnt missed a game since joining the Wild in 2012, led the NHL in ice time each of the last two seasons.I probably wash my hands more than anybody, he said. I go out of the way to make sure Im a clean guy. So for me to get it, it stunk. I always tell these guys, Youve got to be mentally strong and youll never get sick. So theyre all giving me a hard time.___AP Sports Writers Greg Beacham in Anaheim, Calif., and Dave Campbell in St. Paul, Minn., contributed to this report. ' ' '

Young had 29 points while Pau Gasol added 22 to lead
Posted by: Bellroll33 - 16-08-2019, 04:55 PM - Forum: General Light Novels - No Replies

TORONTO -- Nick Young and the Los Angeles Lakers got the Toronto Raptors to play it their way Sunday afternoon. Young had 29 points while Pau Gasol added 22 to lead the short-handed Lakers to a 112-106 win at the Air Canada Centre, halting Torontos six-game home win streak. Los Angeles (16-25) used an attacking style to rally from deficits of 19 and 17 points and earn its second straight road victory but just its third in 15 games overall. "We didnt get defence into the game," Toronto coach Dwane Casey said. "We played their game . . . it was pretty but we didnt get defence into the game. "That allowed those big runs and thats not who we are. We have to be a defence-first team, not a three-point shooting team . . . we got caught up in their quick threes, which were not very good at." The Lakers hit 12-of-22 (54.5 per cent) three-pointers but also made 26-of-28 free throws. Toronto finished 9 of 30 (30 per cent) from beyond the arc and held a 47-31 edge in rebounding but only attempted 11 free throws, making nine. "That tells us either were not getting the calls or were not driving to the rim," Casey said. "They were the aggressor going to the basket. We had some bonehead fouls on some three-point shots, thats something you shouldnt do. "But it starts on the defensive end. We didnt get up into people and when we did react we reacted late and subsequently you get fouls called." DeMar DeRozan had 23 points while Kyle Lowry added 21 for Toronto (20-19), which lost the chance for its first-ever season sweep of the Lakers. The Raptors won the first meeting 106-94 on Dec. 8. Kyle Lowry added 21 points for Toronto while Patrick Patterson added 17 points coming off the bench. Lowrys three-pointer pulled Toronto to within 102-101 with just over two minutes remaining. Ryan Kellys three free throws made it 105-101 before Youngs three-pointer put the Lakers ahead 108-103 with 1:15 left. Youngs two free throws with 20.5 seconds made it 110-104 and effectively cemented the win. Kelly said Young was a difference-maker for the Lakers. "The one thing Nick does is score, especially at the end of clocks," said Kelly, who finished with 17 points. "There are not many people in the league who can do what he does. "We have seven seconds on the clock and you get Nick the ball and he finds a way to get a shot or get to the line . . . we need that." The Lakers were without all-stars Steve Nash of Victoria and Kobe Bryant. Nash, a two-time NBA MVP, is out with a back injury while Bryant, a five-time league champion and Los Angeless all-time scoring leader, is sidelined with a fractured left knee. "After not feeling it in the first half, we just got a bit more aggressive on defence and they felt us," Lakers coach Mike DAntoni said. "You have to give them credit, they hit a lot of good shots to start with but our guys somehow found the resolve to stay into them and it worked out." The Lakers improved to 27-8 all-time against Toronto, including 13-5 at the ACC. "Weve got to understand no matter now big the lead is no team is going to lay down," DeRozan said. "Theyre going to play extremely hard to try and get back and weve got to understand that and withstand the runs theyre trying to make. We didnt do that. "We gave up too many threes. We know theyre a three-point shooting team and we left them in their comfort zone and they knocked them down." Lowery couldnt hide his disappointment about Torontos inability to twice put the Lakers away after surging into commanding double-digit leads. "Yeah, it sucks," he said. "They did a good job of playing the way they wanted and making us play that way also. "They attacked us a lot more. We settled for a lot more jumpshots and we didnt attack as much as we couldve to get to the free-throw line as much as they did." L.A. took an 82-81 lead into the fourth, thanks to three Young free throws with 27.3 seconds left. Young converted a technical on Terrence Ross, then hit two-of-three from the line after being fouled by Ross on a three-point shot. The resilient Lakers overcame a 17-point deficit to take the lead. Toronto opened the third on a 14-2 run to go ahead 73-56 but the Lakers tied it 79-79 on Manny Harriss three-pointer with under three minutes remaining after both Kendall Marshall and Young connected from beyond the arc. Gasols two free throws with 3.4 seconds remaining cut Torontos half-time advantage to 58-54. The Raptors surged into a commanding 50-31 lead in the quarter before being outscored by the Lakers 23-8 the rest of the way. DeRozan was a one-man show for Toronto, scoring 12 of his 16 first-half points in the second. The Raptors were 5 of 16 (31.3 per cent) from three-point range in the half while L.A. was 6-of-10. Toronto led 36-29 after the first, erasing a 24-20 deficit by outscoring L.A. 16-5 over the final 2:58. Patterson led the way for the Raptors with eight points, including two three-pointers as the home team hit on 14-of-19 field goals and 5-of-6 three-pointers in the quarter. Gasol played a big part in leading the Lakers to their early lead with 10 points. NOTES -- Toronto is off to Charlotte for a game Monday afternoon against the Bobcats on Martin Luther King Jr. Day in the U.S. while Los Angeles continues a seven-game road trip in Chicago on Tuesday night . . . Torontos 94-89 home win over Minnesota on Friday night was its 20th victory in 38 games this year, the fastest the Raptors have reached 20 wins since 2007-08 when they did so in 37 games . . . Toronto forward Tyler Hansbrough (ankle) missed his ninth straight game while forward John Salmons, who reportedly suffered a back injury against Minnesota, didnt dress . . . According to a report from the Hamilton Spectator, Infrastructure Ontario has informed the City of Hamilton and the Tiger-Cats the stadium may not be ready by the June 30 deadline.(SportsNetwork.com) - The Winnipeg Jets have hit their first bump in the road under head coach Paul Maurice. The playoff hopefuls look to snap their longest losing streak under Maurice as they visit the Colorado Avalanche on Monday night. Watch the Jets vs. Avalanche live on TSN Jets at 7:30pm ct/8:30pm et or listen to the game live on TSN Radio 1290 Winnipeg. The Jets hit the road for a game following a winless homestand (0-2-1) that has dropped them five points back of the Dallas Stars for the second wild card berth in the Western Conference. Winnipegs three-game slide is its longest since an 0-5 stretch from Jan. 2-11, a rut that led to the firing of coach Claude Noel the following day. The Jets won their first four games under Maurice and went 9-2-0 in his first 11 contests on the bench before this current 2-3-2 stretch. Winnipeg ended its residency with a 5-3 loss to the Ottawa Senators, getting goals from Bryan Little, Dustin Byfuglien and Tobias Enstrom. However, Ondrej Pavelec did not make it past the second period in net, lifted after allowing five goals on 20 shots faced. Al Montoya halted all 12 shots he faced in relief. "Weve been doing everything we can to keep ourselves in games," said Byfuglien. "Theres going to be nights it goes the way it does and thats what happened tonight. We have to find a way, stick to our game plan and just move on." Pavelec should get a chance to rebound tonight and is 3-1-11 in his career versus the Avs with a 1.dddddddddddd96 goals against average. Colorado had a four-game winning streak snapped on Saturday with a 2-1 setback to the St. Louis Blues in a key Central Division showdown. The Avalanche are third in the division, three points back of the second-place Chicago Blackhawks but 11 up on the Minnesota Wild, who sit in fourth. Semyon Varlamov had 23 saves and P.A. Parenteau got the Avs on the board with a goal at the 8:57 mark of the third period. "We certainly had our chances to not only tie the game, but win it," said Colorado captain Gabriel Landeskog. Matt Duchene and Ryan OReilly both had assists to extend point streaks. Duchene has three goals and eight assists over a career-high seven-game run, while OReilly has notched three goals and seven helpers over his past six games. Nathan MacKinnon, though, had the longest point streak by an 18-year-old in NHL history snapped at 13 consecutive games. Colorado also saw forward Paul Stastny exit the loss after just one shift due to a back injury. He is day-to-day. The Avalanche are likely to start Varlamov in the second contest of a four- game homestand tonight and he has gone 6-3-1 with a 2.56 GAA in 11 previous encounters with the Jets franchise. The Avs won their first two meetings with the Jets this season before a 2-1 setback in overtime at home on Dec. 29. Winnipeg has won six of its last eight trips to Colorado. ' ' '

Tomas Hertl scored in the first period and Niemi earned
Posted by: Bellroll33 - 16-08-2019, 04:50 PM - Forum: General Light Novels - No Replies

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Antti Niemi capped a rough week with a stellar performance.Tomas Hertl scored in the first period and Niemi earned his 29th career shutout in his return to the net, helping the San Jose Sharks beat the Nashville Predators 2-0 on Saturday night for their seventh win in eight games.Niemi missed three straight games for the first time in more than three years after sitting out last Sunday in Edmonton and then being held out of two games earlier this week after getting hit by a puck in a morning skate Tuesday. But after two slow periods to start the game, Niemi made 18 of his 29 saves in the third to get his second shutout of the season.I thought he was very sharp when he needed to be, coach Todd McLellan said. His week hasnt been easy. He gets injured, misses some starts, comes into a game like that and really doesnt get tested until the third period. He was able to stay in it mentally and physically, and made some saves in the third when we needed them.Joe Thornton added an empty-net goal as the Sharks put together one of their most complete performances of the season. They would have won more handily if not for strong play from Pekka Rinne, who made 32 saves for Nashville.Hertl managed to get one past Rinne in the opening minutes and Niemi made it stand up.It was slow in our end for two periods, and we had great chances so it was exciting to see him making those saves, Niemi said. Its exciting playing one of the top goalies. The Predators failed in their bid to complete a sweep of a three-game road trip, having outscored Colorado and Arizona 8-1 in the first two games.Rinne, who stopped 57 of 58 shots in those two wins, was just as good against the Sharks but didnt get enough help for it to matter. It was hard for us to get it going tonight, Rinne said. They played extremely well and we were just hanging on there. They had a lot of speed tonight. They were aggressive on the puck. The whole night they seemed to win every battle. The Sharks dominated from the start, outshooting Nashville 18-7, winning three quarters of the faceoffs, killing two penalties and jumping in front during a strong first period.Scott Hannan started the scoring play with a hard dump-in that Thornton fed to Joe Pavelski. Rinne saved Pavelskis original shot but Hertl knocked the rebound in for his seventh goal.San Jose didnt let up and the game got testy late in the period when Tommy Wingels and James Neal fought during a Predators power play. You try to get off to a good start every night, just sometimes it happens better than other nights for whatever reason, Thornton said. Tonight was one of those nights where we just started fast and it won the game for us, probably. The Sharks continued to control the play in the second period and were only prevented from adding to their lead by some splendid goalkeeping from Rinne. He robbed Pavelski twice on a power play and then made back-to-back stops later in the second against Scott Hannan and Patrick Marleau. The Predators put some pressure on in the third after coach Peter Laviolette juggled his lines but Niemi was up to the task.We didnt generate anything for two periods, Laviolette said. We were just trying jump-start something. ... We had a lot of opportunities in the third but we just couldnt get it to fall.NOTES: Four of Thorntons eight goals this season have been empty-netters. ... Andy Murrays match against Andreas Seppi was then suspended due to poor light with the British No. 1 leading 6-4, 5-5 after just under two hours of play. The match will resume Saturday morning ahead of the doubles. Fognini was made to struggle against a player ranked 148 places below him before winning 6-4, 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 in more than three hours to preserve his remarkable Davis Cup record on clay. The start was delayed by more than two hours because of rain in Naples. Ward powered into a 3-0 lead as Fognini double-faulted twice in his first service, game but the 13th-ranked Italian fought back by winning four games in succession before taking the opening set. It looked to be a similar story in the second set as Ward again rushed into a 3-0 lead before allowing Fognini back in. But this time it was the Briton who took four games in a row and levelled the match with a dropp shot.dddddddddddd. Fognini had been hampered by a left thigh injury in the buildup to the series and also had heavy taping by his ribs. He had to receive medical treatment before the start of the third set. Fognini broke quickly in the third and maintained the advantage, saving two break points before serving out the set. Ward then seemed to tire as Fognini comfortably took the fourth and final set, sealing the win with a short volley at the net. Murray, who is ranked eighth in the world, was made to work against Seppi before breaking in the seventh game and going on to claim the opening set. Both players struggled with their service game and Murray had to save four set points in an enthralling final game of the day. The two-time Grand Slam champion is looking for his sixth consecutive win against Seppi as Britain attempts to reach the Davis Cup semifinals for the first time since 1981. Italy has not lost at home to Britain since 1926 and will be hoping the vociferous home support can help it reach the final four for the first time in 16 years. ' ' '

NEW YORK -- As Freddie Roach recalled, he recently received a phone call from Miguel Cotto, who suggested he only had three fights left. Judging by his performance Saturday night, Cotto has plenty left in the tank. Cotto became the first Puerto Rican fighter to win world championships in four weight divisions, stopping Sergio Martinez in their WBC world middleweight title fight Saturday night. "It was a reflection of my hard work (for) 10, 11 weeks," Cotto said. Martinez didnt get off the stool when the bell rang for the 10th round. He did not speak to the media after the fight, as he was taken to a hospital as a precaution. "Miguel beat him from pillar to post," said Martinezs promoter, Lou DiBella. "Miguel Cotto is a great champion." Cotto improved to 39-4 and is 8-1 at Madison Square Garden. Martinez fell to 51-3-2. According to Todd duBoef, the President of Top Rank, the attendance was 21,090, and the gross gate was under $5 million. In the week leading up to the fight, Roach, Cottos trainer, said his pupil would be able to use his footwork to control the fight, and still possessed power even though he moved up in weight class. Cotto proved Roach right from the opening bell, knocking down Martinez twice in the first round with a flurry of body shots. As the fight progressed, Cotto pressured Martinez around the ring, and attacked when openings were presented. Cotto won every round, including a 10-6 first. "Miguel fought a really great fight," Roach said. "Thank you, Miguel, for making me look so good. "He really gave the guy a boxing lesson." Martinez forced Cotto to fight in the middle of the ring instead of on the ropes or in the corners. But Cotto was able to land a variety of jabs and hooks. By the end of the eighth round, Martinez had swelling around his right eye. He also had a cut on his forehead due to a head-butt. Both cuts were glued shut. Cotto landed 54 per cent of his punches, and 54 per cent of his power punches. By comparison, Martinez connected on 31 per cent of his punches, and landed 60 of 157 power punches. "Martinez couldnt hurt him," Roach said. "Miguel listened to the game plan." The Cotto-Martinez fight was the main event of a nine-fight card. Marvin Sonsona (19-1-1) became the NABF featherweight champion with a 10-round split decision win over Wilfredo Vasquez Jr (23-4-1). "Hes a dirty, rotten fighter," Vasquez said. "When I pressured him, he held. He landed one good punch, the punch that knocked me down." Javier Maciel (29-3) won the USNBC super welterweight title, defeating Jorge Melendez (28-4-1) by split decision, and Andy Lee (32-2) stopped John Jackson (18-2) with a left hook in the fifth round. "I ran into a bad one," Jackson said. "What a lucky punch." Prior to the main card bouts, Felix Verdejo improved to 13-0 with a first-round technical knockout of Engelberto Valenzuela (9-2); and Jose Lopez (13-0) won an eight-round unanimous decision over Raul Hidalgo (21-11-0-1) to retain the WBC super bantam FECARBOX title. Jose Pedraza moved to 17-0 with a first-round technical knockout of Arturo Uruzquieta (15-6); and Willie Nelson improved to 22-1-1 with a first-round technical knockout of Darryl Cunningham (29-7). In his first professional bout, Jantory Ortiz stopped Elio Ruiz (1-5) in the first round. Dalvin Cook Womens Jersey . Watch the game on TSN2 and TSN GO at 8pm et/5pm pt. Friday will mark the first second-round playoff game in Washington since 2005. That year, the Wizards were swept by the Miami Heat in the semis, but that wont happen this time around. The Wiz won Game 1 on Monday, but the Pacers clawed back into the series with an 86-82 home victory on Wednesday. Indiana was carried by the unlikeliest of players in Game 2. Roy Hibbert, who scored zero points and grabbed zero rebounds in Game 1s loss, scored 28 points and grab nine rebounds on Wednesday. Hibbert went scoreless three times this postseason and put up donuts in both categories twice, but the All-Star took his mind off things and dominated the Wizards. "Sometimes I wear my heart on my sleeve and other times I just keep things in," admitted Hibbert. "Tonight, I just felt like I just had one thing on my mind: to help this team win. My teammates did a great job of getting me the ball in my sweet spot and believing in me. I just wanted to return the favor." Head coach Frank Vogel acknowledged he didnt call any plays for Hibbert, but the big man was active from the jump. He scored the games first five points and totaled 17 in the first half. "Im sure he didnt like the way he played the other night," said Vogel. "Im sure he didnt like the criticism. Thats the remarkable thing. You play with a certain amount of force and the ball finds you." Another factor that may have freed up Hibbert was the teams announcement that Andrew Bynum, who was signed as a backup in February,, would not appear in a game this postseason and that his tenure with the Pacers was over.dddddddddddd Some reports indicated Hibbert wasnt pleased with the Bynum signing. George Hill finished with 14 points, followed by 12 from Lance Stephenson and 11 out of Paul George. Marcin Gortat had 21 points to lead the Wizards, Bradley Beal added 17 and Nene scored 14 despite rolling his left ankle in the first quarter. All-Star guard John Wall and Trevor Ariza, who scored 22 in Game 1, combined for 12 points in Game 2. Hibberts magical return to form meant a lot for the Pacers, but Game 2 was tightly contested until late in the fourth quarter. Gortat scored with 3:23 to go to get the Wiz within one, but Washington couldnt buy a bucket after that. The Wizards didnt score again until 11 seconds remained in the game and Indiana did enough to knot the series. "End of the day, we played a pretty good game," said Gortat. "We didnt shoot the ball well, especially from the 3-point line. Weve just got to play better." Playoff basketball returned to Washington for the first time since 2008 and this season is the third time since 1982 the Wizards advanced out of the first round. "I hope that when we get back to D.C. were going to see the crowd ready at least 30 minutes before the game," said Gortat. "We need them. I hope they come early and were going to try and bring it." The Wizards went 1-1 at the Verizon Center against the Chicago Bulls in round one. Washington has won two in a row over the Pacers as the host, but Indiana won four straight prior to that. "This is playoff basketball. You cant lose at home," noted Gortat. Game 4 will be Sunday night in Washington. ' ' '

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Maryland had just marched 99 yards to take a fourth-quarter lead, and it was up to Marshall to either respond or succumb. "These kids never flinched," coach Doc Holliday said. "The one thing I like about this group is that it didnt matter." With standout quarterback Rakeem Cato leading the way, the Thundering Herd scored two touchdowns in the final 12 minutes to pull out a 31-20 victory Friday. Cato went 28 for 44 for 337 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions. The most notable part about his performance was that he saved the best for last. Marshall (10-4) trailed 20-17 before Cato brought them back. After directing a 63-yard march to put Marshall up 24-20 with 12:05 left, Cato clinched it with an 8-yard touchdown throw to Gator Hoskins with 3:42 to play. Cato had a brilliant season before this game, throwing for 3,579 yards and 36 touchdowns. But this performance -- on a national stage against an Atlantic Coast Conference foe -- served as the perfect finish. "I tell the guys all the time, Big-time players make big-time plays in a big-time game, and this was a big-time game," Cato said. He had plenty of help. Hoskins had six catches for 104 yards and two scores, Tommy Shuler caught nine passes for 68 yards and a touchdown, punter Tyler Williams pinned the Terrapins inside the 10 four times, and Marshalls underappreciated defence played a huge role. Maryland (7-6) scored only one touchdown after halftime, and A.J. Leggett followed Catos final TD pass with an interception to set off a celebration among the huge gathering of Marshall fans among the crowd of 30,163. "Its a great way to send the seniors out," Holliday said. Making its first bowl appearance under third-year coach Randy Edsall, Maryland closed out its association with the ACC by falling to the runner-up in Conference USA. The Terrapins will join the Big Ten next year. Despite the loss, Maryland had its first winning season since 2010 and finished with more victories than in Edsalls first two years combined. "I think this season really helped us as we leave the ACC and enter the Big Ten," Edsall said. Brandon Ross rushed for 116 yards for Maryland, and C.J. Brown went 14 for 24 for 197 yards. Although the Terrapins amassed 391 yards, they converted only two of 14 third-down tries. "We kept hurting ourselves with penalties, little things that were not helping us on first and second down which were creating unmanageable third downs," Brown said. "There wasnt anything they did that we hadnt seen before." After a whirlwind first half that produced 30 points and 24 first downs, the teams settled into a defensive struggle in the third quarter. Each of the first four possessions ended in punts, but on the last one Marshall pinned the Terrapins on their own 1. In the same situation earlier in the game, Maryland ran three times for 2 yards and punted. This time, the Terrapins put together a 17-play drive that included a pair of fourth down conversions and lasted for 7 minutes, 44 seconds. The 99-yard march ended with a 2-yard pass from Brown to tight end Dave Stinebaugh, giving Maryland a 20-17 lead with 14:56 left. Marshall was quick to respond. Cato completed two third-down passes, and Essray Taliaferro ran in from the 7 to make it 24-20. "To be able to answer back like that was huge," Holliday said. Brown subsequently came up short on a third-and-5 bootleg, providing Cato the opportunity to put the game away. Although the Terrapins got the stop they needed, Cato came up big during the next series. After completing a 28-yard pass to Hoskins on third-and-11, Cato connected with Hoskins again in the end zone. It was Hoskins second touchdown of the game and 15th of the season, most in the nation for tight ends. Cato went 16 for 25 for 193 and two touchdowns in the first half to provide the Thundering Herd with a 17-13 lead. After pinning the Terrapins near their own goal line, Marshall went up 7-0 with a 37-yard drive that ended with Catos 1-yard touchdown pass to Shuler. Maryland tied it with a 29-yard touchdown throw from Brown to Levern Jacobs, but the Thundering Herd promptly regained the lead with a lengthy march that produced an 8-yard touchdown pass from Cato to Hoskins. After Maryland kicked a field goal, Marshall got one of its own for a 17-10 lead. Near the end of the half, Maryland moved 81 yards in 10 plays to set up Brad Craddock for his second field goal. On this day, the Terrapins needed touchdowns to overcome Cato and Marshalls formidable attack. "The problem we had was we got down there in the red zone and ended up kicking field goals," Edsall lamented. Brandon Roy Jersey .   dramatically secured its first Spanish league tit
Posted by: Bellroll33 - 16-08-2019, 04:29 PM - Forum: General Light Novels - No Replies

BARCELONA, Spain -- Atletico Madrid dramatically secured its first Spanish league title in 18 years by rallying for a 1-1 draw at Barcelona on Saturday. Atletico lost Diego Costa and Arda Turan to injury inside 22 minutes, and Barcelona seized control at the Camp Nou in the 34th minute when Alexis Sanchez drove an unstoppable shot into the near corner. Despite the setback, Atletico emerged from the break determined to get back in the match. David Villa hit the post, then Diego Godin fiercely headed home Kokes corner in the 49th. Atletico needed to avoid defeat to secure the title, and it weathered Barcelonas pressure in a frantic finish to cap an improbable domestic success. Atleticos 10th title meant a club besides Barcelona or Real Madrid was Spanish champion for the first time since Valencia in 2004. "Today we could make history," Atletico coach Diego Simeone said. "Not at any moment did I feel that the game was getting away from my team. I know them. I knew they could respond, and the bigger the challenge, the better." Even the 90,000-strong Camp Nou crowd appreciated the feat as it rained cheers of "Atleti" on the players as they celebrated a title triumph that looked uncertain after it lost two of its best attacking players. Atletico finished the 38-game season with 90 points. Barcelona finished second on 87, the same tally as Real Madrid after it closed the season with a 3-1 win over Espanyol. "We fought all season long, hanging on against difficult teams, and against Real Madrid and Barcelona," Godin said. "We felt the pressure, a lot of things were going against us. But the coach told us just to be confident, and believe in ourselves, and the goal would come." It was only the third time the championship was decided by two challengers on the final day, and the first time since 1951. Atletico did it the first time in 1946. Atletico contained Lionel Messi for the sixth time this season as the Argentina forward had a second-half goal ruled offside to keep him off the scoresheet. Not since Espanyol in 1939-40 has a club gone unbeaten in six games in a season against Barcelona. Five of those matches were draws and Atleticos lone victory knocked the Catalan side out of the Champions League. As expected, coach Gerardo Martino said he was stepping down after Barcelona finished the season without a major trophy for the first time since 2008. "We tried it until the end with dignity and we met an opponent that was better than we were," Martino said. "I want to congratulate the great rival Atletico has been during the entire season." Real Madrid will be Atleticos next challenge as the city rivals face off in the Champions League final next Saturday. Both Diego Costa and Turan wept on leaving the pitch after Diego Costa came up lame following a sprint in the 14th, and Turan went out after knocking his right hip. Alexis undid Atleticos defence with a powerful strike from a tight angle after Messi chested down Cesc Fabregas pass and smartly stepped aside for Alexis to smash the ball inside the post. Instead of collapsing, Atletico showed characteristic toughness by finishing the half well with a flurry of corner kicks that Barcelona barely defended. Simeone, who was playing for Atletico the last time the club won the title in 1996, said he told his team at halftime that they were still in it despite trailing and missing two of their most important players in attack. After his pleas for the referee to blow the final whistle were at last answered, several Atletico players collapsed to the ground while Simeone, his staff, and reserves rushed out to join them. Simeone was tossed in the air by his players before the Argentine went into the stands to embrace his father. Earlier, Gareth Bale helped Madrid beat Espanyol after Cristiano Ronaldo apparently aggravated a leg muscle problem during pre-game warmups and didnt play. Valencia also beat Celta Vigo 2-1. Oshane Ximines Jersey . The Cottagers last victory came in a 2-1 home win over West Ham when Rene Meulensteen was still in charge. No Jose Bautista, no problem. At least thats the hope for the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday night when they host the Chicago White Sox for the second of a four-game series. Bautista has missed four games thanks to a hamstring injury, but the Blue Jays have won three times while scoring 25 runs and compiling a .324 batting average without him. The teams 1-2-3 hitters -- Jose Reyes, Adam Lind and Melky Cabrera -- put together eight hits, four runs batted in and four runs scored in the series opener on Thursday. Bautista could be back for the weekend portion of the series. On the contrary, the Chicago pitching rotation has posted a 5.83 earned run average during an 11-game road stretch in which the White Sox have won just once. R.A. Dickey gets the starting call for the Blue Jays with a chance to end a two-start skid in which hes allowed just five runs in 14 1/3 innings, but had only four runs of offensive support. "I think all but one of my earned runs over my last four or five starts have come on home runs," Dickey said. "Thats tough to overcome." Hes unbeaten in his last seven starts at home, but the White Sox pasted him for seven runs in five innings of a 10-6 Chicago victory when they last met last season. Lefty John Danks goes for the White Sox and faces the Blue Jays for the seventh time. However, hes not met them since May 2011, when he lasted just four innings and gave up nine runs in a 13-4 loss. Danks was a 6-5 loser on Sunday at Minnesota while allowing six runs on 10 hits in five innings. On Thursday, J.A. Happ tossed 7 2/3 scoreless innings as the Blue Jays blanked the White Sox, 7-0. Happ (7-4) struck out eight and scattered four hits while walking two for Toronto. Lind posted three hits and three RBI in the triumph, while Reyes had four hits, two runs scored and an RBI. They wore matching jerseys that day, the same one with the little hockey player on the front. That was all it took for the two to become friends, friends who are one step closer to a shared dream of playing in the National Hockey League. Best buddies and teammates for the better part of the seventeen years that followed that first chance encounter, Connor Brown and Matt Finn have seen their paths converge once more – their two junior teams recently collided in the OHL playoffs. They are both prospects of the same organization, both picks of the same draft, both likely to become teammates as professionals with the Marlies and maybe one day, the Maple Leafs. "Its a pretty cool story," says Brown, the elder of the two, but still the younger looking with short red hair. "We dream about it," Finn continues, "but it takes a while for a dream like that to develop into something tangible, something real." It was something they could only imagine all those years ago, all the hours spent playing street hockey and mini-sticks with an Etobicoke squad of friends that also included Flyers first rounder Scott Laughton. Finn calls it "one in a million" that he and Brown would be drafted to the same team. "Youre a kid and youre optimistic, you think that you both have a chance to get to the next level," Brown says. "I couldnt predict that were both going to be in this organization, though." Finn was picked in the second round of the 2012 draft, 31st overall by the Leafs. He was joined a few rounds later by Brown, his name called with the 156th overall selection. "He called me right away," Brown says of Finn. "He was pretty excited about the whole thing. We both were ecstatic. I saw him go to the Leafs [and] I was like Oh wow, thatd be awesome." They had been teammates for a span of 10 years or so they figure, right up until minor midget. "He was tiny," Finn says of Brown, whom he guessed was "barely" 5-foot and 120 pounds, but still a force. "You could see how smart he was with the puck and his playmaking ability and patience and how competitive he was, but he got overlooked because everyone just thought he was small – he was getting pushed off the puck – he cant play. But everyone grows, everyone is going to get bigger and once he did that, you could really see that part of his game come back full circle." Brown has been the consttant underdog, overlooked time and again for one reason or another.dddddddddddd Listed at 5-foot-7 and 130 pounds back then, he was picked in the 13th round of the 2010 OHL priority draft – 251st overall. "A lot of people always try to doubt Connor Brown," says Leafs assistant general manager and former Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds GM, Kyle Dubas. It became harder to doubt or even ignore Brown this past season. The 20-year-old captain of the Erie Otters led the OHL in scoring, pried away the Red Tilson trophy as the leagues MVP and guided his team to 52 wins and a berth in the Western Conference Finals (they would fall to Finn and the Guelph Storm in five games). He has since sprouted up to 5-foot-11, continuing to add heft and strength to a listed frame of 170 pounds. "He definitely just blew expectations out of the water," Finn says, labeling Brown as a "very sneaky" offensive talent. "I dont think anybody would pinpoint him as a guy to do it, but thats been Brownie the whole way. Nobodys ever chosen him to do anything; hes always been small, hes always been kind of an underdog and hes done a great job." Finn was more the sure thing to get to this point. In that same 2010 OHL priority draft, he was gone early, off the board with the 12th overall selection, nearly 240 picks before Brown. He, too, was the captain of his OHL team, steering Guelph to the leagues best record, an OHL championship and a berth in the Memorial Cup last season. Listed at an even 6-foot and nearly 200 pounds, Finn tallied 61 points in 66 games, second amongst all OHL defenders in scoring. The Leafs were surprised to find him there for the taking in the second round of that 2012 draft, hopeful of his future as a capable two-way defender. "We were not on the strong side of that too often in the Sault, playing against Matt and playing against the Storm," Dubas says. "Hes proven himself over his time in the OHL to be a really strong prospect and its exciting to be on the same side as him versus having him torch us in the Sault with the Storm." Brown and Finn still live five minutes apart from each other in Etobicoke and remain the closest of friends. Their families, too, continue to be tight to this day. And after a four-year hiatus, they are likely to become teammates once more in the AHL, one step closer to reaching their shared goal of playing in the NHL – together. "To be able to play with each other at a pro level as opposed to being three-year-olds on a backyard rink is pretty cool," Finn says. Pretty cool, indeed. ' ' '
